Overwinter stubbles for spring crops

Article Image

In most areas of the country stubbles are greening up with considerable vigour.

Where these are due to be sown with spring crops, weeds may be of considerable size by the time this is due, and hence more difficult and/or costly to eliminate. Interim treatment may be necessary with Gallup, so check fields and don't let weeds get too big. The unseasonal warm weather combined with high soil temperatures will provide ample time for effective control using Gallup. Ploughing on its own may have the effect of transplanting large weeds which will be very difficult to kill in the spring when timeliness of establishment is critical.
