Most winter sown cereals have
come through to the spring well established and by now should have
received a fungicide to control the main diseases.
HERBICIDE TREATMENTS:
Any remaining grass-weeds
need to be controlled as soon as possible as after GS 31 the
effects on final yields become more pronounced. The same can be
said for some broadleaved weeds and in particular cleavers (Galium
spp).
Hurler which contains
fluroxypyr is particularly effective on this the most yield sapping
of broadleaved weeds but needs to be applied at at least 0.75lt/Ha
when the weed are growing actively to be fully effective. If tank
mixed with a product containing ioxynil and bromoxynil trials show
some increase in the level of weed control from this
combination.
Table 1 below shows the
effects of leaving three weed species uncontrolled after the end of
March high-lighting the need to control undesirable species as
early as possible.
